i am sorry, but i ate batman

This weekend some friends and I ate at La Boucherie where my friend Jen is the sous chef. It’s a restaurant on Vashon Island that is directly affiliated with Sea Breeze farm, where the real milk I wrote about here is from. Almost everything they serve is sourced either from the farm or the island. We had sweet potato gnocchi with ricotta and pumpkin puree, a charcuterie plate with pickled apples, pork rillettes, pork pate, and head cheese (all made by Jen), veal scallopini, rustic pork sausage with sauerkraut, boquerones, pickled beets, veal chops with braised greens, and some awesome bread made by a local islander named Bill. George Page, the owner of Sea Breeze farm, was our server and his wife and business partner Kristin was the hostess. We had a great time and of course, everything we ate was amazing. George informed us that the veal we were eating once was a young cow named Noodle and the pork we were eating was from a pig named Batman. And let me tell you, Noodle and Batman were delicious (although it should be noted, Noodle didn’t taste a thing like noodles…).

 +  = YUM!

Our experience with Batman and Noodle brought to mind a hilarious skit I recently saw from a new show called Portlandia. It’s quite funny, completely relevant to Seattle-Portland-New York-San Francisco food culture, and you should watch it here!
